What is a St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace?

In compassionate collaboration, the St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace is made possible through the generosity of local trade partners, vendors, and national sponsors who donate their time, labor, and materials. Upon completion, the home will be sold, with net proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

Our Why

Like the founder of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, Danny Thomas, many of us have experienced moments in life when challenges feel overwhelming—times when we find ourselves asking for strength, guidance, and another chance.

Early in his career, Danny Thomas struggled to find steady work and support his family. During one of his most difficult seasons, he prayed for guidance and made a promise: if he found success, he would build a shrine to honor St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of hopeless causes. Years later, that promise became St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, a place dedicated to giving children and families hope when they need it most.

In much the same way, moments of hardship often shape our purpose.

For Havyn Homes’ founder, Mike Graniczny, that defining moment came during the 2008 recession. As the business faced one of its most difficult periods, uncertainty was high and the path forward was unclear. What carried him through was faith, perseverance, and a promise—that if given the chance to rebuild, he would find a way to give back in a meaningful way.

At the time, the shape of that promise wasn’t fully known. Today, it has become clear.

The St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace is the fulfillment of that promise—a reflection of resilience, gratitude, and a deep commitment to helping others. Through this initiative, Havyn Homes is honored to support the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and to turn a moment of hardship into a lasting impact for families in need.

Impact on the Valparaiso community

The arrival of the St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace brings more than a new home to Valparaiso. It creates an opportunity for the community to rally around a cause that reaches far beyond Northwest Indiana.

Through public engagement, local support, and the eventual sale of the home, this project will help generate meaningful support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. It also gives residents, partners, and supporters a chance to participate in something bigger than themselves: a collaborative effort to advance hope, healing, and innovation for children and families who need it most. 

Building Hope Together

This project is the result of a strong collaboration among Havyn Homes, St. Jude, local contractors, suppliers, sponsors, and community supporters. From early planning through construction, each contributor plays a role in bringing the St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace to life. This project would not be successful without the contributions of our local contractors, suppliers, and community supporters.

The St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace creates meaningful opportunities to bring the community together through a series of special events.

We officially launched the Valparaiso St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace with our Bricks & Sticks event on February 29, 2026. This kickoff event marked the announcement of our partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and provided an opportunity to share our mission and vision for the project. The event welcomed an incredible turnout of more than 100 attendees, demonstrating strong community support from the very beginning.

In late April 2026, we will host the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Valparaiso St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace. This milestone is especially significant, as it will also mark the first home to begin construction within Havyn Homes’ inaugural community, Scianna. Additional Upcoming Events Include:

• Floor Signing – Donors and partners will be invited back to the home to leave their signatures and messages of hope, becoming a permanent part of the St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace.
• VIP Open House – A special opportunity for donors and supporters to tour the completed home and celebrate their contributions to the project.
• Public Open Houses – The community will be invited to tour the fully completed St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace and learn more about the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.
• Closing Ceremony – Donors, partners, and community members will gather to celebrate the project’s success and witness the presentation of proceeds from the St. Jude Dream Home® Showplace benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.
